History

The inspiration behind Supakako is our founder, Tuala Tagaloa Tusani wanting to help the youth in his Village after surviving a suicide attempt as a 19-year-old. The trauma he experienced, and the resulting breakdown of his family is something that he does not want any other family to experience. In Samoa, when he wasn’t helping on the family farm (whose failure led to his family coming to NZ), he was cleaning the local bus.

This earned him the nickname “Supakako” (Samoan for Bus Assistant) a name that remains with him today. Tuala is thankful for his second chance, and is using it to help to create jobs in his village.
